Rita Timewell and Stephanie Carlson began their journey as owners and innkeepers of the Albert Shafsky House Bed & Breakfast in June 2002. Romanced by the small town atmosphere and charm of the Placerville foothills, they left their home in the San Francisco Bay Area to embark on a new and rewarding adventure.
Rita has spent years opening her home and creating magic in the kitchen. Combine this with her consummate hosting skills and you’ve whipped up a recipe for innkeeping success. Rita’s hobbies include the unique and competitive sport of Pod Racing.
Stephanie enjoys spending time exploring the Gold Country but can usually be found on the computer, ensuring the newsletter and blog stay current. Trains are her favorite hobby and The Gandy Dancer Room features many favorite treasures. Steph also loves electronics, geocaching and iPods. Check here if you are having iPod problems.
Lily, a Miniature Dachshund, resides at the bed and breakfast in the owner’s quarters and backyard. When not monumentally busy chasing air or her favorite toy, Lily is employed greeting guests

At the time of reservation we secure an advance payment equal to one night's stay plus tax. The balance is due upon arrival.
Due to our intimate size, any cancellations affect us significantly. Consequently we adhere to a strict cancellation policy.
If you must cancel your reservation, notify us 14 days prior to your arrival to receive a refund of your advance payment less a $25. administration fee. If you are unable to cancel your reservation at least 14 days prior to your stay, you are obligated to the entire amount of your stay. Your advance payment will only be returned if we are able to re-book your room. All cancellations and/or changes to reservations must be made via phone with one of the Innkeepers of the Albert Shafsky House.
No-show reservations will be charged the full booking amount.
All rates are subject to a 10% City Tax.
We are a non-smoking inn.
There is a $15.00 charge for lost or unreturned keys.
We have a two-night minimum on weekends and holidays, but give us a call just in case-we may be able to squeeze you in.
Although we love pets, Lilly. our resident dachshund, doesn't enjoy sharing her space with other pets, so we are unable to accommodate them at the inn.
Check-in time is between 4 and 7 p.m. With advance notice, we are pleased to accommodate late check-ins. Please contact us regarding arrangements.
