The Albert Shafsky House Bed and Breakfast is a beautifully restored landmark property located in the heart of the Historic District of Placerville, CA. The Queen Anne Victorian Bed and Breakfast affords a peak into a rich and vibrant period of California History. Nestled in a lovely alpine setting in the California Foothills, the inn is a perfect spot from which to set off on an historical exploration of “Gold Country”. The Gold Rush heritage of this lovely town in El Dorado County, CA is vast and includes tales of The Hangman’s Tree and Snowshoe Thompson.

A lovely, comfortable and romantic bed and breakfast, we are located just 60 minutes West of Lake Tahoe and 40 minutes East of Sacramento, California.

Albert Shafsky House Bed and Breakfast offers a lodging experience beyond the ordinary. Three unique guest rooms, each with its own private bath, feature many thoughtful touches including fine Gilchrist and Soames bath amenities and cozy Cypress robes and slippers.

Locally-grown and produced El Dorado County wine greet you upon arrival. A delicious homemade breakfast crafted with fresh local ingredients is our way to give you the best start each morning.

The Albert Shafsky House Bed and Breakfast continues to do our part to work for and with our environment. We are “green-friendly” and recycle.

Rita Timewell and Stephanie Carlson began their journey as owners and innkeepers of the Albert Shafsky House Bed & Breakfast in June 2002. Romanced by the small town atmosphere and charm of the Placerville foothills, they left their home in the San Francisco Bay Area to embark on a new and rewarding adventure.

Rita has spent years opening her home and creating magic in the kitchen. Combine this with her consummate hosting skills and you’ve whipped up a recipe for innkeeping success. Rita’s hobbies include the unique and competitive sport of Pod Racing.

Stephanie enjoys spending time exploring the Gold Country but can usually be found on the computer, ensuring the newsletter and blog stay current. Trains are her favorite hobby and The Gandy Dancer Room features many favorite treasures. Steph also loves electronics, geocaching and iPods. Check here if you are having iPod problems.

Lily, a Miniature Dachshund, resides at the bed and breakfast in the owner’s quarters and backyard. When not monumentally busy chasing air or her favorite toy, Lily is employed greeting guests

Our Policies

Mark and I stayed three night this time (Thanksgiving) and brought my recently widowed Mother with us. We did not know if a bed and breakfast in Placerville could meet the varied needs of the three of us, even though The Shafsky House had provided a wonderful experience for my husband and I as a couple in the past. Rita and Stephanie were just as cordial as we remembered. The both "waited up" to welcome us, even though we arrived later than planned. They could not have been more gracious and hospitable. We had questions about places to go in the area (where to get the best pies, etc) and other requests to make our stay go more smoothly. We were cheerfully accommodated at every turn. "Best Customer Service" definitely fits the Shafsky House with Rita and Stephanie. The decor is always a delight. We enjoyed the interesting books and memorabilia, as well as the beautifully decorated Victorian ambiance. The breakfasts are out of this world, always providing goo ideas for dishes for entertaining at home. Thanks again for a great time. We'll be back.
